This is the first time that PKSF has held such a seminar on such contemporary issue. 17 female Executive Directors of 17 Partner Organizations (POs); 8 representatives from women-lead POs; male Executive Directors from 10 POs; women beneficiaries from 18 POs; 2 beneficiaries from LIFT project-- participated in this seminar. Dr. Pratima Paul-Majumder, member, Governing Body, PKSF; Mrs. Majeda Shawkat Ali, member, General Body, PKSF; Dr. Quazi Mesbahuddin Ahmed, Managing Director, PKSF; Md. Fazlul Kader, Deputy-Managing Director (Operations) , PKSF; Dr. Jashim Uddin, Deputy-Managing Director (Admin. & Finance), PKSF and all the female employees of PKSF were present in the seminar. Dr. Qazi Kholiquzzaman Ahmad, Chaiman, PKSF chaired the seminar.

In this seminar 2 papers were presented. Professor Zaheda Ahmad, Department of History, Dhaka University presented the first paper entitling “Thought of Women Development: Situation of Bangladesh” and Ms. Selina Sharif, Manager, PKSF came up with the second paper entitling “Contribution of PKSF in Developing/ Empowering Women”. After the presentation of the papers, the participants took part in an open discussion. It was agreed by all that microcredit has helped the deprived women to be empowered in many ways. It has blessed these women with economic freedom, which assisted them to take their own decision. However, it was also stressed that education and health facilities are must for the women in order to reach real development.

Dr. Qazi Kholiquzzaman Ahmad listened to the suggestion provided by the participants and welcomed them. He mentioned that PKSF has already taken the issues of education and health facilities seriously as they are working on it through ENRICH program of PKSF. Besides, he emphasized on the following issues in accordance with the discussion of the partakers: the Code of Conduct should be practiced regardless of male and female employees in PKSF and PO level; female employees should be given more opportunity in taking part in training; it has to be supervised carefully that, whether lending microcredit is effectively empowering women or not; the opportunity of winning ‘special fund scholarship’ should be broadened for female beneficiaries; for encouraging the female entrepreneurs, “Performance Award” can be presented to the POs; even the female Executive Directors of the POs can create an institution to work more efficiently, though the initiative should be taken by the POs themselves. Finally, he said that this seminar is a start  and all have to march toward the path of development with greater initiative.
